German producer prices rose 1.8% year-over-year in June, easing from 2.2% and signaling cooling pipeline pressures. Spanish trade balance deteriorated to a deficit of 8.24 billion euros, reflecting weaker exports. German ZEW economic sentiment surged to 26.3 against an 18 consensus, driven by improved expectations for the industrial sector.
Dutch consumer confidence recovered to -35 from -39, indicating slight stabilization in household sentiment. Euro Stoxx 50 gained 0.50% to 6,316.99 while DAX rose 0.66% and CAC 40 advanced 0.89%. EUR/USD climbed 0.24% to 1.14 and EUR/GBP added 0.17%.
The German 10-year Bund yield fell 2.51% to 2.97% as investors positioned for unchanged ECB rates. Eurozone CPI YoY stands at 2.80% and unemployment at 6.20%, providing the backdrop for limited policy flexibility.
French business confidence for July is due at 22:45 ET, with markets expecting no change from the prior 100 reading. German GfK consumer confidence follows at 22:00 ET and is forecast to edge up to -28.5. Flash S&P Global PMI prints for France and Germany will arrive between 23:15 and 23:30 ET, covering manufacturing, services and composite indices.
Later in the week, Italy will release advance second-quarter GDP and unemployment data. Traders will also monitor any additional ECB speakers for signals on the July decision. No major central-bank speeches are scheduled today.
Eurozone CPI remains at 2.80% year-over-year while unemployment stands at 6.20%, leaving the ECB with limited room to ease aggressively. Mortgage lending volumes have continued to decline across the currency bloc, prompting fresh warnings from Frankfurt on credit transmission. Fiscal support measures in France and Germany are keeping growth above potential but adding to debt-service costs at current Bund yields.
Energy prices, with Brent crude at 95.91, remain a key upside risk to the 2.80% inflation print. Member states continue to diverge, with Germany showing clearer signs of industrial stabilization than southern peers.

France recorded 5,764 excess deaths during the recent heatwave, raising questions about labor supply and healthcare costs in coming quarters. Renewables subsidies in France are set to reach a record 9.75 billion euros in 2027, adding fiscal stimulus but also long-term debt. Global risk sentiment stayed supportive for euro crosses despite a 0.70% drop in Bitcoin and a 0.49% decline in gold.
Middle East tensions kept Brent crude elevated, feeding into euro-area energy import costs.
The ECB is expected to leave the deposit rate unchanged at 2.25% after the committee voted to hold. Lagarde has signaled possible early departure before her term ends, opening speculation about succession. Spain has endorsed former Bank of Spain governor Hernández de Cos in the first formal bid for the presidency.
The central bank highlighted the ongoing contraction in mortgage lending as a risk to monetary-policy transmission. Staff projections continue to show inflation converging to target only gradually, supporting a cautious stance on further cuts. Markets now price fewer than two 25-basis-point reductions through year-end.
Any forward guidance on PEPP reinvestments or TPI activation will be watched closely for signals on balance-sheet policy.
