The RBA raised the cash rate to 4.85% at its November meeting, in line with consensus, and released an accompanying statement that flagged elevated inflation risks. The Monetary Policy Statement and subsequent press conference reinforced the committee's focus on returning CPI to target. Australian 2-year yields climbed 7 bp to 4.95% and 10-year yields added 6 bp to 5.21%.
The AUD/USD pair fell 0.79% to 0.70 while AUD/NZD slipped 0.70% to 1.24. The ASX 200 rose 0.34% to 8,886.80 and the NZX 50 gained 0.46% to 13,720.26. BHP shares declined 0.56% to 56.42 amid softer iron-ore prices.
The RBNZ held its OCR at 2.75% at its late-October meeting and registered Revolut as New Zealand's 27th bank.
New Zealand releases quarterly employment data and the headline unemployment rate at 16:45 ET, with markets expecting a modest slowdown in hiring (consensus 0.4% q/q employment change versus 0.5% previously, and unemployment at 5.5% versus 5.6%). Australia's Ai Group Industry Index follows at 17:00 ET and will provide an early read on manufacturing and services momentum, with the prior print at -24.2. Tomorrow brings Australia's October trade balance, forecast to widen to A$1.2bn from A$495m on stronger commodity shipments.
No RBA or RBNZ speakers are listed in the calendar for today.
Australia's housing market continues to weaken under higher borrowing costs, with transaction volumes and prices both sliding. The RBA has warned that next year could feel recessionary for households despite the economy avoiding outright contraction. New Zealand's dairy and tourism sectors remain sensitive to global growth and currency swings.
China's demand outlook stays the dominant external driver for Australian commodity exports and NZ agricultural prices. Policymakers in both countries are watching wage and housing inflation closely for signs of persistence.

Brent crude fell 1.34% to $103.37 while gold eased 0.82% to $3,937, reflecting softer risk appetite. Bitcoin rose 1.06% to $77,487.59 as investors sought alternatives amid equity volatility. The AUD's post-hike decline against the yen and NZD highlights limited carry-trade support.
New Zealand's currency lost earlier gains linked to geopolitical headlines after the RBNZ hold. Broader risk sentiment remains tied to US data and China stimulus signals. Commodity exporters in both ANZ economies face headwinds if global industrial demand softens further.
Central-bank divergence between the RBA's tightening path and the RBNZ's pause is widening interest-rate differentials.
The RBA delivered its fifth hike of the year, lifting the cash rate to 4.85% and signalling that further tightening cannot be ruled out if inflation remains sticky. The committee voted to raise; no vote split was disclosed. The next scheduled decision is 8 December.
In contrast, the RBNZ held the OCR at 2.75% at its late-October meeting, with the committee voting to hold and no split disclosed, and is not expected to move before 9 December. The RBNZ has been more aggressive than the RBA in both hiking and easing cycles historically, yet the current divergence points to a wider policy-rate gap ahead. Housing-market linkages remain critical for both banks, with Australian prices showing deeper weakness.
Employment prints due today in New Zealand will feed directly into the RBNZ's inflation and labour-market assessment.
