Poland's NBP purchased additional gold in June, lifting reserves above 20 million ounces as prices dipped. EUR/PLN closed at 4.2895 before advancing to 4.30 on the session. iShares Poland ETF fell 0.78% while Hungary 10Y yields dropped sharply.
News confirmed Poland's inclusion in a US-led Patriots missile project during NATO talks in Ankara. No macro releases occurred on 7 July across the region. Romania's trade deficit narrowed modestly in May while Czech retail sales posted a 1.1% y/y gain.
Broader equity moves stayed contained with BIST 100 edging higher 0.51%.
Poland's NBP rate decision at 05:00 is expected to leave the policy rate unchanged at 3.75%. Turkey's June industrial production y/y figure releases at 23:00 on 9 July. Markets will monitor any follow-through from the NATO summit outcomes for Hungary and Poland defense spending.
FX flows may react to ECB deposit rate stability at 2.25%. Regional equity trading will likely track Brent crude gains of 3.34% to 76.64.
Poland and Romania are positioned to maintain current rates as inflation outlooks improve across eastern Europe. Energy import dependence remains a shared vulnerability for the EU members despite varying Russian gas exposure. EU cohesion fund disbursements for Hungary stay delayed by rule-of-law reviews, with a fresh assessment due by end-July.
Poland has now drawn its full RRF allocation after meeting final milestones. Broader euro-area linkages continue to shape policy convergence discussions for CZ, HU, PL and RO.
Stronger US data and Middle-East tensions weighed on regional risk sentiment overnight. Eurozone CPI at 2.80% y/y supports the ECB deposit rate at 2.25% with limited immediate spillovers. Brent crude rose 3.34%, easing pressure on energy importers in Poland and Hungary.
Gold's modest decline aided NBP accumulation without disrupting reserve strategies. Asian FX moves, including a firmer rupee, provided little direct read-through for CEE currencies. ↓ p.2

Global equity caution kept Bitcoin and gold mixed while sovereign spreads in Turkey widened modestly.
NBP kept its rate at 3.75% with the committee voting to hold amid stable inflation trends. CNB officials signaled that tight policy remains appropriate after services prices showed persistence despite softer headline prints. MNB faces downside risks to growth following Hungary's weak May industrial output, complicating any near-term easing bias.
BNR is expected to maintain its stance in line with Romania's moderating price outlook. CBRT continues to operate under political constraints with real rates still deeply negative ahead of the July meeting, sustaining pressure on reserves and the lira. Policy divergence persists as CNB and MNB remain more attuned to ECB moves while Turkey charts an independent path.
